Dr. John Hubbell, DVM, MS, ACVAA, discussed the Demystification of Anesthesia for the 2018 Cocktails & Conversation attendees. Dr. Hubbell directs the anesthesia service at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and is responsible for training all Rood & Riddle team members that perform anesthesia at any of the three practices; Lexington, KY, Saratoga Springs, NY and Wellington, FL. Dr. Hubbell has consulted at Rood & Riddle since the facility was established in 1986 and joined the staff on a full time basis in July of 2015. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia and has spent his entire veterinary career focused on anesthesia with a particular interest in the horse. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 1982, was a faculty member at the College of Veterinary at Ohio State for 33 years and currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus. Dr. Hubbell has co-edited and co-written two widely read books on anesthesia, Handbook of Veterinary Anesthesia, currently in its 5th edition, and Equine Anesthesia, Monitoring and Emergency Therapy, currently in its 2nd edition. An author of over 75 scientific publications, Dr. Hubbell is a frequent speaker on the topic of equine anesthesia, including presentations at the annual meetings of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
